How to install and connect night flight lighting

From the mounting plate to the first light-up: this is how Lucid night flight lighting goes into your model.

1. Mount the plate

The mounting plate is glued firmly into the wing. It carries two brass threaded inserts, flush on the top side. The light is screwed on from above, so it can be removed at any time – without glue or hook-and-loop strap.

The hole spacing of the plate matches the mounting holes of the respective light size exactly:

SizePlate (L × W)Hole spacing
48–60″26 × 8 mm18 mm
60–91″44 × 14 mm30 mm
91–104″52 × 14 mm40 mm
104–125″58 × 16 mm46 mm

2. Connect the power

On the underside of the plate there are two solder pads for the power supply. Through the screws, the light is connected directly to plus and minus. The lights are designed for a 2S LiPo (7.0–8.4 V).

3. Screw on the light

Place the light on the plate and fasten it with the two screws. Because the lights are cooled by the airflow, avoid leaving them switched on for long periods on the ground.

4. Choose how to switch it

  • MiniSwitch: one channel for LED lighting, about 1 g. Five levels are selected via servo travel: off, sequence 1, 2, 3 and on. It runs on 5–12.6 V and switches up to 10 A.
  • 8-channel light controller: eight light channels with up to 4 A each, plus two ignition channels for e-igniters. It runs on 2–3S LiPo or Li-ion.
  • LucidLight Controller: eight light channels and two ignition channels, programmable via smartphone – coming soon.

The input voltage decides the output voltage. Depending on your setup, the lights may need a current-limiting series resistor.

5. Strobe lights and cable management

The strobe lights shine steadily or flash, depending on a solder bridge. With the solder bridge fitted, they must not stay switched on continuously, or they will overheat. We recommend a light controller for operation.

The non-elastic hook-and-loop strap secures batteries and cables firmly and can be combined for larger circumferences.
